Andrea Haffner’s intriguing photos come unexpectedly when her images of the body, architecture and organic forms in nature are combined and overlapped. These mostly black and white images are a product of combining negatives and invite and encourage the viewer to see more than just a face or an arm or more than the surface of a rock or the bark of a tree. Andrea has been exhibiting her work since 1993 and has had several solo shows in the Washington, DC area as well as Philadelphia, PA. She has been included in numerous group shows as well in the metro area and beyond. In 1999, Andrea produced a limited edition book of her photographs, entitled “isograms.”
Currently living in Washington, DC, Andrea Haffner received her B.A. from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. She also studied under David Scheinbaum in New Mexico, Ally Massey at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC, and Barbo Eriksdotter Gendell at The Art League in Alexandria, VA.
In addition to her photography work, Andrea is an meticulous jewelry designer. Her line of earings and necklaces combine tiny organic elements into resin forms. Frequently, she will use her photographic images placed into the resin. She is most recently taking this process a step further and creating wall sculptures using this translucent resin with imbedded elements encased in a metal carrier.
