Jeff Gay, a native of Texas, began taking photography in 1997 while living in the Paris neighborhood of Odéon. While he has shot scenes in the United States and elsewhere, the bulk of his work is set in Europe. He has won awards from the professional services firm Deloitte and also Columbia University where he recently completed his masters degree.
“For me, photography is about two of my passions: travel and good design. Many of my landscapes are from countries around the world where I have lived or visited. In preparing for a photo, I aim to shoot images that clearly convey not only the physical look of a place but also the texture and feel. I shoot almost exclusively in black and white because I like its timeless effect the photograph could have been taken 20 years ago or yesterday. The effect is particularly effective in many of the scenes from Europe. I also enjoy capturing the sinuous lines of clean architecture and good design. A photograph of a structure or of an architectural element can focus the viewer’s attention on one specific aspect that may have otherwise gone overlooked.”
