John Leslie Talkington, creates abstract and realistic art using a variety of media types primarily on a “commission” basis with individual clients and also through area galleries. He was raised on a ranch in the Flint Hill Tall Grass Prairie region of Kansas; known for its grass lined rolling hills, sparse population and grand vistas. He attended college at Kansas State University where he received his degree in Architectural Engineering. After college, he moved to Washington, DC to start his career as an Architectural Engineer. He currently lives there with his wonderful partner and two dogs.
The underlying compositional theme of his work is redolent of his home terrain of Kansas and Washington, DC. These images are expressed with high contrasting textures, obscure horizons, and brilliant colors. The artist wants to capture attention first by the contrasting colors and then draw the viewer into the painting's composition with textures and light refracting paints. Just like looking at a cloud, the artist encourages the viewer to slowly discover his or her own special interpretation of the image.
