Juditha received her Fine Arts degree from the University of Maryland and taught art in public schools in Maryland and northern Virginia for over 20 years. During her years as a teacher, she exhibited in group shows throughout the metropolitan area. In 1996, while living in Cairo, Egypt, she exhibited in two solo shows, the first in an Egyptian national museum and the second at a Cairo gallery. Back in this country, in 1998, she exhibited new work in Washington, DC and New York. Juditha currently lives in Washington, DC. In earlier work she used a combination of acrylic paint and her photographs, but now uses film “only” to explore texture, light and shadow. Shooting with film rather than digitally, she uses an SLR camera with multiple combinations of macro, other lenses and filters and does not manipulate her images.
“The art of taking macro-photographs is a spiritual practice for me. Being in and capturing the present moment is my aim. I use a traditional 35mm camera, with different lenses as well as expressive techniques. My hope is to convey my intimacy with the images as well as to create in others a feeling of wonder. Sometimes color, shape or pattern is my guiding force. It can also be the lines or texture in nature. One can often overlook the beauty of what is on the edge of experience.”
