Rae Johnson

Rae Johnson is a printmaker and Registered Nurse. She received her BFA at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in 2001 preceded by a BA in Nursing in 1987. She has shown her work in group shows in local galleries such as plan b, Studio Gallery, Kathleen Ewing Gallery, Touchstone Gallery, District Fine Arts and DCAC. A set of her prints was purchased for permanent display at Berea College in Kentucky. She has participated in art shows which raised funds for organizations such as Whitman Walker Clinic and Centro Nia.

She finds that her art and nursing work support each other. A desire to learn from and exchange ideas with people from other cultures lead her to study and work as a volunteer health promoter in South and Central America. She continues to immerse herself in cross-cultural work at her current position as an RN at a community health clinic in Washington, DC. Her desire is to reflect the beauty that she finds in these people who come from all parts of the world as well as native Washingtonians with stories of struggle, and courage, and sacrifice, and hope. Communications between cultures is a primary interest. And though she lives in the heart of the city, she finds inspiration and life through the natural world. She often tries to weave humanity and nature together in her work exploring their connections through pattern and themes.
